D-Zeros at the RYA Dinghy Show 2018 – Stand G6

The D-Zero Class Association is pleased to announce that we will be at the RYA Dinghy Show 2018 at Alexandra Palace on the 3rd and 4th March. On a combined stand with the new D-Zero UK dealer DZero you will find 2 D-Zeros. One with the larger grey rig (8.1 sqm) and another with the smaller blue rig (6.9 sqm). One boat will also be sporting the optional lifting rudder.

The class will also being giving a presentation on the Class Association stage in the Great Hall at 16:00 on the Sunday detailing what will be happening with the class in 2018 including details of the training schedule and extensive demo tour by DZero.

David Valentine from DZero says:

At DZero on stand G6, you will find the Devoti Sailing Optimist and D-Zero sailing dinghies, as well as the D-Zero Class Association.
The D-Zero will be showing both options of sail 6.9m2 and 8.1m2, and the liftable and cassette rudder options. The D-Zero is a no-compromise singlehander, from the unique no-gunwhale Dan Holman design to the high specification of North Sails kevlar laminate sail matched to the fantastic Compotech carbon-fibre spars plus high quality Harken blocks & cleats throughout.
The Optimist will be rigged with a North Sails X-Cut racing sail, and both dinghies will show the very high quality finishes to achieve high performance sailing.
For the D-Zero, we will be holding a 2-part promotion – Firstly, for any sailors placing a deposit for a new D-Zero at the show will gain a days training at a location near them from either our Team Rider and former British Sailing Team Finn sailor Pete McCoy, or from the 2017 National D-Zero Champion. Secondly, those who wish to know more about the D-Zero and are looking to have a demonstration sail can place their names in a hat for a days training from the very same high level sailors !
These will enable those who are starting in the D-Zero or wish to join the Class to gain the maximum benefit from their first few days sailing and uplift their performance.
For Optimist sailors, it will be a chance to see the superior finish of the Devoti build, and to discuss the level of build as each one can be tailored to any sailor.
The D-Zero Class Association will have several members on hand to advise about the 2018 race programme, social events and demonstrations, as well as why they love the D-Zero. The Class also will be running a short talk at 1600hrs on Sunday re the events, training and whay the class is amazing !
As having just taken over the UK dealership, I am keen to show off the high quality from Devoti, and launch the new website dzero.co.uk, aswell as our Facebook and Instagram pages, dzero.co.uk. In addition, we will be explaining how we will be offering free-of-charge demonstrations to potential buyers, facilitating training from top-level sailors, and offering a loaded e-comm store.

Paul Jefferies – D-Zero UK Class Association Chair says:

This is an exciting time for the D-Zero as a class. The class is growing steadily and many boats are changing hands as people upgrade before they even reach the open market.
The class would like to thank our outgoing UK dealer, Suntouched Sailboats, for their hard work in in getting the class launched in the first place and for their continuing work since 2014 and getting us to where we are today. We are looking forward to working with David at DZero who is a keen D-Zero sailor himself, and knows just how good the boat is. We have found that simply getting someone in the boat for a sail is often enough to convince them to join us.
With our major events sponsors already secured with  Harken  for our National Championships and Sailing Chandlery (formerly Dinghy Rope) for our Inland Championships along  with north and south regional circuits scheduled for 2018 it is going to be a great year of D-Zero sailing.

Want to find out more? then simply surf on over to the Class Association website (https://www.d-zerosailing.org) and take a look around or come and see our team of friendly boat owners at the show.

The D-Zero class needs you (for the Dinghy Show 2018)

The D-Zero Class Association will be at the RYA Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace on the 3rd and 4th March 2018 (more details to follow on this shortly).

What we need are some enthusiastic and friendly D-Zero owners to help out on the stand on the Sunday of the dinghy show. In return for your time we can offer you free entry to the show and, if you are there all day, a lovely D-Zero branded polo shirt.

The catch? We need to know by Friday 9th February so we can get the shirt order in.

So if this is of interest drop Paul Jefferies (your Class Chair) a message by clicking here.

Dinghy Show 2017 Report

The 4th and 5th March 2017 saw the largest non-sailing dinghy event in the UK take place at Alexandra Palace. With a stand staffed by friendly and enthusiastic owners ready to greet people the D-Zero class were ready to meet and greet an extol the virtues of the boat and the class. With the current UK National Champions new boat on the stand with a custom coloured deck moulding there were plenty of question about colours and what colours were available.

Also on display was the new lifting rudder assembly. Launched late in 2016 in response to comments from both boat owners and potential boat owners this was developed by Suntouched Sailboats and Devoti Sailing as a direct replacement for the standard cassette rudder. it is available as an option on a new boat and as a separate assembly for existing boats.

Saturday was the busier of the 2 days and included Nigel Austin collecting prizes for the GJW Direct Sailjuice Winter Series events where he was 2nd in the Most Improved category. Nigel also received a special award which was awarded by GJW Direct, Sailjuice and Tim Olin for his achievement of attending every event (one of only 2 competitors to do so) and having a positive and enthusiastic attitude (even when things were not going his way). He also collected the Class Winners prize on behalf of Ian Morgan who was first D-Zero but who could not attend the show on Saturday. Then Mandy Sweet, the class secretary, was interviewed by VR Sport Media for their Dinghy Show video.

On Sunday the show was much quieter but the stand was still very busy for most of the day with the team taking enquiries for demo sails and answering questions as well as catching up with friends and fellow D-Zero owners and finding a little time to do some shopping and look around the show.

So on the whole it was a successful show for the Class with lots of interest in the boat and secondhand demand particularly high at present prompting a few current owners to trade up to new boats. If you are thinking on joining the class then do take a look at the class website by clicking here or find us on social media we have an active Facebook group and twitter feed (@DevotiZero).

The class would also like to pass their thanks on to those who were involved in organising the stand for the show:

Neil Washington for doing all the legwork, working with the RYA and their event management company during the run up to the show and for setting up the stand on Friday.

Mandy Sweet for organising the stand staffing.

David Summerville for arranging the polo shirts.

Rodney and Sue Cobb (also known as Suntouched Sailboats) for their generous sponsorship of the class stand, supplying a new boat and stand as well as providing a TV for our promotional presentation

Devoti Sailing for their generous sponsorship of the class stand

SmoothSigns for their loan of a display dongle and access to their presentation software in order for the class to build a great presentation comprising of videos, photos and information pages.

All the D-Zero owners and Class Association members who gave up their time to staff the stand.

See you on stand F12 this weekend

The D-Zero class stand is ready to welcome visitors to the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show 2017.

See you at the weekend!

Come See us at the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show 2017 Stand F12

The 2017 RYA Suzuki Dinghy 2017 takes place at Alexandra Palace on the 4th and 5th March 2017. The D-Zero class will be there with a brand new boat on the stand courtesy of Suntouched Sailboats. The stand is being staffed by enthusiastic D-Zero owners from all levels of the fleet, including current National and Winter Series Champion Ian Morgan (Sunday morning if you want to come and pick his brains).

This kicks off another busy year of events for the D-Zero class with the first Open Meeting of the season taking place just a week after the show at South Cerney Sailing Club.

The class is also hoping for a bumper turnout for their 2017 National Championships which are being held at Royal Torbay Yacht Club from the 16th to 18th June 2017. Some class insiders are predicting that we will break the 50 boat barrier after the success of the 2016 edition at Highcliffe Sailing Club and the continued growth the class is showing.

So we look forward to welcoming you to the stand, our stand volunteers will be easily identifiable in blue polo shirts and will all have name badges.

2016 Dinghy Show Report

The D-Zero sporting a custom carbon fibre deck plate and compass bracket

On the weekend of the 5th and 6th March 2016 the D-Zero Class were at the Suzuki RYA Dinghy at Alexandra Palace. The Class Association stand was manned by volunteers from the class and going by the social media chatter the Class stand was very busy with a lot of enthusiasm for the boat and several expressions of serious interest that were passed over to Suntouched Sailboats who were exhibiting directly opposite us.

D-Zero in light blue and sporting a blue rig certainly got a lot of attention

Exhibited at the dinghy show this year were 2 colour combinations, one of which is to be a limited edition run and features a carbon fibre deck plate for the mast and the other showing how a subtle colour can really show the boat off. In the case of the show boat it was also paired with the blue rig sail and definitely got peoples attention!

The prototype D-Zero lifting rudder was also on display

Also on show was the new D-Zero lifting or flip up rudder. With a stock made by Allen and a blade that is the same section as the standard cassette rudder just different at the head to allow it to pivot. We are told by the builder that this will soon be available as an option on new boats and will be available to purchase separately should any existing owners wish to change to it and it is a direct replacement with no modification required.

Russ Hopkins, D-Zero Class Secretary says:

Great to catch up with many of you over the weekend. Reminded me just what a great selection of people we have in the class and how passionate you all are! Fantastic.

Just wanted to share some thanks to Rodney and Sue Cobb for all their efforts! I know they worked tirelessly under tight time constraints enforced by the show organizers to turn the stands around. Also not forgetting Mike Woodhead, again selfless in his efforts!

The 2016 season is now full steam ahead, I met with the race officer for our nationals at the show as well as a charming man whom organise’s the Endeavour Trophy he seemed keen for us to be part of the event….Time will tell.

The show didn’t seem as busy this year, but there was rarely a chance to catch a breath and there was plenty of interest in the D-Zero and the “Celebration Edition” I believe there will be some new faces joining the class over the next few months to build upon our steady growth in numbers.

Thank you all – See you on the water soon…Just as soon as I remember where I left my boat….

Wendy Horton, D-Zero Owner and Stand Volunteer says:

We really enjoyed our 2 hour slot on the stand. It went really quickly as there were so many people taking an interest in the boat.

A prospective D-Zero owner says:

Really enjoyed chatting to you guys on the stand about the D Zero, it looks like great boat, and I can’t wait to try one out

Suntouched Sailboats at the RYA Dinghy Show 2016

Suntouched Sailboats will have an exciting range of Devoti single handers at this year’s RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show, at Alexandra Palace (5th/6th March).

At the Olympic level they will be exhibiting the Finn that has taken the Finn world by storm, impressively the Devoti D-Fantastica achieved the top 9 places in last year’s Finn Gold Cup in Takapuna, New Zealand.  The Fantastica Finn on display will be heading out to Rio and the Olympics this summer after the Dinghy Show.  This has to be a boat worth checking out!

For those looking for the extra thrill of an asymmetric Suntouched can point you at the D-One Class Association stand just across the aisle to see a recently delivered boat.   Of course Suntouched are always happy to talk about the D-One and the team would be very pleased to talk D-Ones to anyone interested in the class.

There will be three D-Zeros at the show this year, two on the Suntouched Sailboats stand and one on the Class Association stand across the aisle.  One of the two boats on the Suntouched stand is the first of a Limited Edition, the Celebration, to mark two years since the launch of the class in 2014  Also, this year Suntouched will be showing a D-Zero flip up rudder for those who prefer this option over the standard cassette rudder and the very neat TackTick carbon bracket.  There will be some great offers on both new and used D-Zeros and the Devoti Optimist, also on the stand.

You will find the Suntouched Sailboats stand in the Great Hall, stand number C6.
